Fasting to Lose Weight? Discover the Truth About Fasting and It’s Effects on Your Body!

One method to help you lose weight is fasting. To put it simply, the thought process behind fasting is that you just stop eating and you will lose weight. In order to be truly successful in your weight loss ventures, you must be thinking long term. Fasting can’t necessarily be considered long term, although it does have it’s benefits, as well as weaknesses.

Whilst fasting seems simple in theory, actual doing so is quite difficult. You will definitely see reductions of weight when you substitute your usual eating habits for low calorie meal substitutes, however, these will generally only last temporarily. Additionally, long term fasting without proper medical guidance can be very dangerous. Furthermore, when you fast your metabolism will begin to slow down dramatically and when you return to your normal eating habits at the conclusion of your fast you will find all of that weight will be quick to return.

However, aside from the above, fasting does play a part in a long term weight loss plan, in my opinion. Many religions practice a one day fast from time to time, as it helps give your digestive organs a rest, that they do require. It also helps your body rid all of the toxins it contains and also contributes towards weight loss.

As already mentioned, it’s important that you understand what you are doing when you fast, as it can be dangerous, otherwise. The day before you fast you should ensure that you eat as many meals as you usually would and also drink plenty of liquids. On the actual day of the fast, you need to make sure that you aren’t going to be do anything too strenuous on your body as your energy levels will be fairly low. You should also look to drink plenty of water throughout the day of your fast. It’s also a good idea to have a second day with little activity and introduce your meals back slowly to ensure you get the full benefits of the fast.

In conclusion, fasting is not the best way to lose weight, however, it can definitely be part of a much larger long term weight loss plan. If you are going to fast, you need to make sure that you do so correctly as outlined above.
